Defender Aiden Butts helped Ashley Ridge win its seventh straight region match this past week.

The Ashley Ridge boys grabbed their fifth consecutive region championship with a 5-0 victory over crosstown rival Summerville.

Zac Boyd scored two goals April 19, and the Swamp Foxes also registered scores from Joshua DeSouza, Beckham Harris and Nathaniel Harris as they defeated the Green Wave to clinch the Region 7-5A title. Aiden Butts, DeSouza and Boyd provided assists.

Keith McCune and Tyler Davidson combined for the shutout in goal.

Ashely Ridge improved to 19-2 with a 7-0 mark against region opponents, extending its winning streak. The Swamp Foxes have won their previous 13 games and look to sweep their region with a win at 7 p.m. April 23 against Stall. That game is in The Swamp, and the team is celebrating Senior Night.

Ashley Ridge has now had 11 shutouts this season and has allowed three or fewer goals to opponents in 10 of its other games.

The Swamp Foxes close out their schedule at 6 p.m. April 25 when they host Academic Magnet. As the region champion, the team will be a No. 1 seed for the playoffs beginning April 29. The Swamp Foxes will have a home-field advantage for the first three rounds, provided they continue to advance and don’t face a team they hosted in the playoffs this past season.
