Infielder/pitcher Drew Hartig has been key to the Panthers’ success this season.

Pinewood Prep won its series with Porter-Gaud this past week on the baseball diamond.

The Panthers won two out of three games against the Cyclones to improve to 12-8 on the season and 6-2 in their region. Pinewood defeated Porter-Gaud 10-0 on April 15 and 16-1 on April 17 before falling 7-3 in the third game on April 19.

Pinewood hosts Wilson Hall at 7 p.m. on April 22 and travels to Northwood Academy on April 23 for a 6 p.m. game key to the region standings. The Panthers also host the Lowcountry Wildcats at 6 p.m. April 24.

Track and Field

Some local track and field athletes are posting high marks and low times.

Fort Dorchester’s Jalen Barry is the state’s top boys javelin thrower in the SCRunnersMileSplit Rankings. Barry threw 56.57 meters at the Woodland Lowcountry Invitational. During the Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic Elite Meet April 19 in Seneca, Barry placed third in the javelin with a 172-plus-foot mark.

Fort Dorchester’s Kyleigh Moore won the girls’ javelin at the Coaches Classic with a 129-plus feet mark. Their Fort Dorchester teammate, Malayia Morrow, placed third in the girls’ 400-meter run with a 56.87 time.

The Summerville 4x110 relay team finished in 1:16.21 at the Father Kelly Classic, the top time for the event in the SCRunnersMileSplit Rankings.

Ashley Ridge’s Alana Braxton jumped 12.15 meters in the girls’ triple jump during the All-American Track Classic to move into the top spot in the rankings for that event.

During the Meg Jenkins Invitational at Ashley Ridge April 20, Ashley Ridge’s Matthew Phillips had a 15-plus feet mark in the Boys Pole Vault to win the event. Other event winners at the meet include Ashley Ridge’s Dallas Turner (Boys 100/200/High Jump), Kendall Wilcher (Boys 400), Marshall Ledyard (Boys 800/1600), Dominick Granato (Boys 3200), Cayden-Lee White (Boys 110 Hurdles/Triple Jump), Ayden Ray (400 Hurdles), Andrew Mack (Boys Long Jump), Luca Sciannamea (Boys Discus/Shot Put), Ben Timmons (Boys Javelin), Samantha Franklin (Girls 100/200/Javelin), Reece Reed (Girls 400), Ryenne Fox (Girls 800), Abigail Penick (Girls 1600), Ja’Niyah Henderson (Girls 400 Hurdles), Alexandria Franklin (Girls Long Jump), Alyson Hanna (Girls Pole Vault) and Alexandria Harris (Girls Discus/Shot Put).

Summerville’s Trinity Jones won 100 and 200 during the Last Chance Trojan Classic April 20 at Cane Bay. Her teammate, A’Zedah Anderson, placed second in both events. Other Top 3 finishers at the meet include Summerville’s Ben Hamilton (Boys 800), Dillon Aiken-Banks (Boys 400 Hurdles), Warren Nelson (Boys High Jump), Noah Whack (Boys Pole Vault), Zeke Panter (Boys Pole Vault), Kayden Gaddist (Boys Javelin), Camryn Dillings (Girls 400), Brianna Dooney (Girls 1600) and Taylor Blackwelder (Girls 3200).

During a meet at Cane Bay April 17, Pinewood Prep’s Wyatt Noack won the Boys 400 Hurdles with a 1:00.18 time. Teammate Tyler Berry won the Boys Shot Put with a 43-03.29 mark. Pinewood’s X’Zoria Vaughn won the Girls' Javelin with an 89-05.23 mark. Fort Dorchester’s Cailyn Webber won the 100 with a 15.92 time and the Girls' Triple Jump with a 34-09.72 mark.

Other Top 3 performances at the meet included Pinewood Prep’s Terrance Stallworth (Boys 200), Sam Gross (Boys Shot Put) and Fort Dorchester’s Jusaint Conde (800), Christian Krueger (Boys Pole Vault), Lailah Holman (Girls High Jump), Shamauriah Bethea (Girls High Jump) and Kourtnae Smith (Girls Shot Put).
